A Heartfelt Thank You from David

21 Years at The Wensleydale Heifer

It is hard to believe that 21 years have passed since our journey at
The Wensleydale Heifer began.

When I look back over those years, there are countless memories, plenty of highs, a few challenges along the way, and more stories than I could ever fit onto one page. But above everything else, there is one overwhelming feeling...gratitude.

The Heifer would simply not be what it is today without the incredible support we have received from our customers over the past 21 years.

Some of you have been coming through our doors since the very beginning. We have watched couples become families, celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, engagements and weddings, and welcomed people back year after year.
Some guests have become familiar faces, and many have become friends.

To every single person who has chosen to eat with us, stay with us, recommend us to a friend, buy a voucher, leave us a lovely review or simply tell someone about us, thank you!
Your support has allowed us to do what we love for 21 years, and I will never take that for granted.

The same enormous thank you has to go to our staff, or, as we like to call them, the Heifer Herd 🐮

Hospitality is all about people, and over the years we have been incredibly fortunate to have some wonderful people become part of our team. Some have been with us for many years, others have moved on to new adventures, but every person who has worn the Heifer uniform has played their part in our story.

I am incredibly proud of the team we have today. Their hard work, loyalty, humour and genuine desire to look after our guests are at the heart of everything we do.

For me, though, The Wensleydale Heifer has always been much more than a business. It has truly been a family affair.

My Father, Lewis, has been the most integral part of the Heifer story as my business partner. Having dad alongside me throughout this journey has meant more than I can really put into words. We have shared the decisions, the challenges, the successes and probably more than a few disagreements over the years ,as any father and son in business together will understand!

My wife, Sano, has been there beside me, including rolling up her sleeves and helping our housekeeping team.

Our daughters have grown up with the Heifer as part of their lives. Elysa is now 20 and has become part of the team herself, while Thia is now 15 and is at the start of her Heifer journey. It is slightly frightening to think how quickly those years have disappeared!

And, of course, there is one very special person who I wish was here to celebrate this milestone with us.

My wonderful mum, Diane, who sadly passed away earlier this year.
Mum was such an important part of our family and of the story behind The Wensleydale Heifer. The support she gave to me, dad and the entire team over the years was immeasurable. She was always there, encouraging us, supporting us and sharing in everything that came with this crazy journey.

Her absence is deeply felt, particularly at moments like this, but I know she would have been incredibly proud to see us celebrating 21 years.

When I think about everything that has happened since we first started, what means the most isn't an award, a review or a particular dish. It is the people ❤️

It is the customers who keep coming back.

It is the team members who give everything to make someone's visit special.

It is the friendships that have been formed.

It is my family who have stood beside me through every up and down.
